Coolcote is a liquid ceramic based elastomeric membrane that, when applied to your roof, greatly reduces the amount of heat transferred through it.
When solar radiation strikes an uncoated roof, it is converted into long wave Infra Red radiation. This radiated energy passes down through the roof, and is absorbed by concrete, steel, bricks, machinery and people inside the building. The internal temperature then continually rises throughout the day.
The graph to the right indicates metal temperatures for an uncoated and coated roof. Wind or cloud can affect results.

HOW DOES COOLCOTE™ WORK?
CoolCote™ is a brilliant white colour that reflects solar radiation (which represents about 60% of the total energy striking a building's roof), and prevents it from transferring its energy as heat. About 80% of the solar radiation is reflected back into the sky after striking a surface coated with CoolCote™.
The other 40% of thermal energy striking a building's roof is in the form of Infra Red radiation. The specially selected minerals in CoolCote™ reflect and emit around 90% of this energy back into the atmosphere. An untreated galvanised roof will emit only about 40% of the Infra Red radiation.
PROVEN TECHNOLOGY
CoolCote™ also utilises technology developed for NASA's Shuttle programme. The product contains tiny ceramic spheres, around 100 microns in diameter. Each of these contain a perfect vacuum, creating a coating that forms an excellent insulation and sound barrier - just like billions of tiny thermos flasks.
CoolCote's™ ability to emit heat is particularly useful at night. Any built-up energy in a building is absorbed back through the roof, allowing the building to cool rapidly. Traditional roof materials retain heat in a building throughout the night because of their low emittance values.
Over a whole day up to 50% of the solar heat load is prevented from entering a building's coated roof.
During hot weather, internal building temperatures can be reduced by over 15°C after the application of CoolCote™
The ceramic particles used in CoolCote™ are similar to those used in the Space Shuttle tiles. A thin coating of these particles will protect a human hand from a blow torch flame held only ten centimetres away.
PRODUCTIVITY AND SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE For every 1 degree Celsius that the temperature rises past the optimum working temperature of 22°C, two noticeable changes have been known to occur:
- Output from each worker reduces by 1.8%
- Accidents increase by 4.5%.
Therefore a rise of 10°C above 22°C will result in an 18% loss in productivity and a 45% increase in the risk of a work related accident.
EXTEND THE LIFE OR YOUR ROOF
- CoolCote™ can be applied to all types of metal and fibro roofs.
- It will extend the life of your roof by reducing expansion and contraction caused by high heat loads.
- It's elastomeric (rubbery) nature will seal small holes up to 3mm in diameter preventing leaks in winter. (It won't peel or flake.)
- It will reduce the process of oxidation by protecting the surface from water and airborne pollutants.
- CoolCote™ will reduce incoming and outgoing noise due to its ceramic sound absorbing qualities.
AIR-CONDITIONING EFFICIENCY IMPROVED
The efficiency of installed air-conditioning will be greatly improved, and power consumption decreased by up to 30%* due to the reduced heat load.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
There is no disruption at all during application. The entire process takes place externally by our trained applicators.
|
| Stage 1: |
The roof is thoroughly cleaned and degreased using high-pressure water and a biodegradable cleaning solution. Any rust is treated with an anti-rust sealer.
|
| Stage 2: |
CoolCote™ Primary, the main ceramic membrane, is applied with a special high solids spraying machine. This is sprayed on at a wet film thickness of approximately 500 microns.
|
| Stage 3: |
When the primary coat is dry a specially formulated, clear, high-gloss acrylic with extremely low dirt pick-up characteristics is applied. This maximises the reflective efficiency of the coating.
